    Per Fischer 1877-1974

    Per Adolf Fischer was born in born in Otterstad, Västergötland (southwest Sweden) on 6th December 1877. He was a Swedish (landscape) painter, printmaker and interior designer.

    Inspired by the Norwegian realist painter Halfdan Strøm (1863-1949) Fischer attended the Royal Drawing School (Kongelig Tegneskole) in Christiania, Oslo in 1896. He then attended the Academy of Fine Arts (Akademie der Bildenden Künste) in Munich in 1898.

    Fischer first exhibited in Gothenburg in 1902. He then exhibited as part of the group 'De Frie' (The friends) in Malmö and Copenhagen in (1903), Budapest (1906), Lund (1907), Stettin (1904), Riga (1910), Rome (1911), Düsseldorf and Cologne (1912), Leipzig - where he exhibited woodcuts (1914), and Buenos Aires and San Francisco (1915). 

    In 1918 Fischer took a full-time position as an Interior Designer in a Stockholm. He married Ruth Maria Charlotta Moberg in 1925.

    Fischer was a member of The Woodcut Society and the Union Internationale des Beaux-Arts et des Lettres. Examples of his works are held in the Gothenburg Museum of Art (Göteborgs Konstmuseum) and the Danish National Gallery (Statens Museum för Kunst / SMK) in Copenhagen.

    Fischer died in 1974, aged 96.
